We're Finalists In the 2019 Women In Law Awards: Boutique Diversity Law Firm of the Year

2 min read
In the late 70’s Different Strokes taught us that, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. But the legal profession has been slow to embrace all the benefits that we associate with a multi-beat band. Here at BlueRock Law we recognise that to make great music our band needs a diverse range of talented BlueRockstars and that’s why we are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Lawyers Weekly, Women in Law, Diversity Award.

Why wouldn’t we want our law firm to reflect the realities of life? The business world is not represented by one homogeneous group so it’s important that BlueRock Law reflects the diversity of our clients. We provide great client outcomes because we can draw on a range of ideas and opinions when it comes to providing solutions. Different life experiences and backgrounds enable our employees to provide innovative and creative advice.

And who doesn’t want to work in an environment that embraces diversity. In a competitive market staff are attracted to a workforce that represents people of different ages, genders, races and sexual identities. We open ourselves up to the opportunity to entice candidates from a wider pool and we aren’t limited by traditional stereotypes. It means we are guaranteed to find the best person for the job.

A lot of our success can be attributed to our horizontal management system. That’s a fancy way of saying that we value and respect all our employees equally. Remember the days when articled clerks picked up their bosses dry-cleaning and were too intimidated to contribute. You will find our Managing Director rolling up his sleeves and cleaning up after we host an event, and if there’s a phone ringing in reception he will happily pick up the call.

Employees who feel like they are on a level playing field are more likely speak up when they have a fantastic idea or when they see a problem. It creates an unprecedented level of collaboration and cohesion. Important attributes when you are working within a multidisciplinary framework. When people walk through our office, they understand that we place an emphasis on cooperation, fairness and equality. That’s a great starting point for workplace harmony.

With females representing just over half the Australian population it would be madness not to work hard to keep women in the legal profession. While many firms pay lip service to gender equality BlueRock Law is about finding real, workable solution for women who want to combine career and family. We understand that family comes first, and our policies reflect our genuine commitment to recognising your priorities. Babies arrive, kids get sick, baby-sitters cancel, school holiday arrangements fall through; it’s all just part of life and we want to help our parents navigate these challenges.

The human race is a diverse species, with so many different cultures, languages and beliefs. In an age of globalisation, where borders are becoming almost void when it comes to doing business, surely it’s imperative that all successful companies embrace diversity. Variety in our skills and experiences gives us the confidence to tackle the demands of global clients and makes us adaptable to changes in the legal environment.

For us diversity isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life. Maybe you are looking for a great place to work or thinking about aligning your business relationships with a firm that reflects your personal values? Our diverse BlueRockstars all sing from the one song sheet while marching to the beat of a different drum.; together we are creating beautiful music.
