Take one step inside our offices and all your suspicions will be confirmed. We have taken the traditional stereotypical law firm, put it through the wringer, stomped on it a few times and created BlueRock Law. Some people think we are crazy, but we prefer terms like creative and innovative and that’s why we are thrilled that the Lawyers Weekly, Women in Law Awards, have shortlisted us for the “Innovator of the Year” Award.
If you’ve got as far as our blog, you probably already know that we aren’t your everyday run-of-the-mill law firm.
We have done away with the partnership structure and we love the way its working. It’s created an environment of cooperation and cohesion; no one is battling it out for holy grail of success. We aren’t possessive over clients, freaking out about individual fees and obsessing over billable hours. It’s allowed us to move away from hourly billing and embrace fixed or alternative fee arrangements. All of this is good news for clients because we can focus our attention on them and save them money at the same time.
If profits don’t go into the pockets of partners, then that gives us a competitive edge. We can use the money to invest in technological and innovative solutions for our clients. Or we can branch out to fund further growth or invest in entrepreneurial ventures. It leaves us with flexibility and that’s possibly a word you don’t normally associate with the legal profession.
It also means that all our team members have the opportunity to buy into the BlueRock vision. It’s seen us adopt a horizontal management system. Those vertical systems are great, when you are on the top looking down. Try starting at the bottom and looking at all those stairs you need to climb just to feel confident enough to contribute. A level playing field means our staff feel valued and respected from the minute they walk through the door, even if they are a bit overwhelmed by the décor.
Plus, we are part of a multidisciplinary framework, basically a one stop professional services shop. We can help you with your legal questions but what about a comprehensive approach to all your business needs? We offer tax advice, accounting, wealth management, HR and digital services all under the one multi-coloured roof.
There is no doubt that we love our clients, but we love our employees more. We put our people first and that’s going against the grain when it comes to law firms. How can we expect to get the best out of our staff if they aren’t mentally and physically fit? So, we invest in our team and ultimately the clients reap the rewards. We have sport teams, yoga lessons, running clubs, book clubs, wine appreciation clubs, team retreats, board game nights, Mario Kart tournaments, free lunches and we value your life outside of work too. Go home and spend time with your family, pursue your passions and come to work feeling energized and excited about your career.
And we care about the environment too! Our B Corp certification means that we meet a whole range of social and environmental benchmarks. We aren’t just about financial success. We recognize the power of business to do good in the world and our local community and that’s not very lawyerish.
As it turns out we don’t just toss around the word innovation and we are more than just a cutting-edge website and revolutionary office space. We are happy that in the legal arena we are being recognized as an Innovator, we always thought Lawyers Weekly were an insightful bunch. Good luck BlueRock Law!
