Happy FY 2020!
Last week we celebrated the end of FY 2019, and what a year it was. As July 1 came rolling around, we wrapped up our tax returns and FY 2020 planning and began reflecting on all that our community has achieved over the past year.
We marked not only another successful year, but also a very special birthday. Yep, we’re officially in our teens. On July 1, BlueRock turned 11, and in those 11 years, we’ve grown from a team of eight to a team of 180. But although we’ve grown quite a lot in those years, we’ve never strayed far from the principles we were founded on - an unwavering commitment to community, a responsibility to helping our clients achieve great things, and a dedication to a different way of doing business.
We couldn’t be prouder of everything our community has achieved to help grow BlueRock into what it is today, and this last year has been no exception - we‘ve kicked some massive goals for our clients, our employees and our community.

Here’s what we got up to in FY 2019
We welcomed 973 new clients
Community has always been a big focus for us here at BlueRock. After all, we were founded on the idea that working with your mates is a great way to build a positive culture. In FY 2019, we welcomed almost 1000 new clients into the BlueRock community, supporting business owners to grow their businesses (and their networks) with advice and guidance across a range of business functions.
We helped our clients with 1,589 projects
We often feel lucky to be partnering with the amazing entrepreneurs we get to call clients. We’ve worked with MedTech innovators needing support to launch a lifesaving medical device into market, a developer looking for insight into the livability of a proposed megasite, and a FinTech business needing help to launch their brand with a full go-to-market strategy, just to name a few. Across the breadth of business advisory services, we’ve worked hard with our community of entrepreneurs to achieve some pretty amazing things.
We conducted 4,370 client meetings
We like to take a big-picture approach when it comes to helping our clients reach their goals. Yes, we can balance your books or look after your SMSF administration, but everything we do for our clients is driven by a strategic view of how we’ll help you achieve long-term business success. It’s not a one-way street; it’s a partnership built on collaboration. That’s why we conducted over 4,000 client meetings last year, working with our clients to reach their business goals.
We recruited 30 volunteers into BlueRock's B Corp Collective
In FY 2019 we established the BlueRock B Corp Collective, a team of 30 BlueRock volunteers who believe that business can be a force for good. The crew implement and champion initiatives to ensure BlueRock continues to have a positive social and environmental impact on the world around us. That includes hosting the Business for a Better World series of events, joining the B1G1 movement, and welcoming the B Lab team into the BlueRock coworking space!
Some of our biggest FY 2019 highlights
We couldn't have accomplished so much without the hard work and dedication of our BlueRock divisions. Read on for some of their biggest highlights.
The Accounting team held over 2000 client meetings in FY 2019. In doing so, they helped our clients grow the value of their businesses by focusing on three key areas: financials, employees and strategy. The team helped our clients grow sales, increase profitability, raise capital, attract and retain employees and optimise their tax strategies. All supporting our clients to navigate the sectors they operate in and to foster growth for their businesses!
Nominated as a finalist for Employer of Choice at the Australian Law Awards 2019, BlueRock Law was recognised as a leading workplace with an exceptional culture of employee engagement. We’re not surprised they were nominated. We’ve always known BlueRock was a great place to work!
In FY 2019, the General Insurance team was appointed as the broker of a leading technology firm on the back of a comprehensive analysis of their business and a proposed restructure of their insurance program. It’s a testament to the team’s expertise in all things general insurance and their ability to create a tailored solution that helps our clients handle the pressures of running a business.
The Digital team helped a leading Melbourne distributor leverage digital to optimise their front-of-house operations and back-of-house operations. This included the development of their brand, visual identity and website, as well as the creation and development of an automated inventory app that allows the distributor to spend less time on paperwork and more time on growing their business!
In FY 2019, the Finance team helped our clients save on average $2,500 P/A in interest payments. It was as simple as completing our fee-free review and health check of their existing home loan facilities!
In FY 2019, the Private Wealth team expanded the BlueRock Investment Committee and its client portfolio management capability. This has set the wheels in motion to establish the BlueRock Foundation. Watch this space - more to come on this in FY 2020!
The Places team was excited to collaborate with Riverlee and DarkLab (the team behind Dark Mofo!) to develop Hobart's newest and most unique cultural precinct, In The Hanging Garden. Complete with live music, pop-up kitchens, beer garden and nightclub!
In FY 2019, the SMSF team rolled out monthly reconciliations for our SMSF clients. The new service provides clients with online access to the innovative SMSF administrative platform, Class Super, giving our clients visibility on their superfund throughout the year, and improving the client service the team provides.
Grants and R&D
The Grants and R&D team helped 22 Australian businesses take on the world last year by putting $5.3M back into their businesses through the R&D and export incentives. Applications can be complex, but our expert team knows how to help Australian businesses offset their research and development costs and advance their innovations.
The Bookkeeping team was excited to develop and launch a new structure that gives all clients access to a dedicated Account Manager and Bookkeeper. The new structure provides our clients with high-quality outcomes, no matter how complicated their situation.
In FY 2019, the Propella team worked with a large developer to provide insight into the residents, retail mix and livability of a proposed site using their sophisticated AI-powered solutions. This was delivered as part of a comprehensive feasibility and master planning process. The approach was so successful, the client plans to roll it out for all future residential projects!

What are we looking forward to in FY 2020?
What a financial year it was! In FY 2019, we worked with so many ambitious clients, on so many exciting projects. We’re excited to continue on their business journeys with them, and we’re looking forward to further building out our community this year.
We also held some great events last financial year and we’re really looking forward to hosting more in FY 2020, bringing together our community of BlueRockers, clients and B Corpers to share a drink and nibble, learn from each other and discuss better ways of doing business.
