It was all hands on deck in 2019 with BlueRock HQ as busy as ever. We celebrated our 11th birthday and welcomed 55 new staff members. We’ve continued to do great work for our clients and have had heaps of fun along the way. And did we mention that we had a couple of our staff members climb to Everest base camp? That’s right - we’re climbing mountains, both figuratively and literally.
Looking back at the year that was, we could see some key themes emerging from the hustle and bustle of 2019: innovation, operational excellence, culture, community and purpose. We couldn’t have done it without the involvement and efforts of the wider BlueRock community. A big thank you to all of our staff, partners, clients, families and friends who have been part of the journey and helped us achieve so many great things.
Innovation - a new frontier
As the BlueRock Intelligence team spoke to people in the property industry, they noticed a common theme - property professionals were struggling to find answers to their questions that were backed up by evidence and real data. They identified a problem and began tailoring a solution. Enter Propella.ai, a geospatial analytics platform designed to help make property decisions simple.
Using advanced analytics, big data and complex algorithms, propella.ai solves location-based problems relating to any property type, from commercial office buildings to sporting precincts and entire city blocks. The Propell.ai team is aiming to change the way that developers and placemakers buy, sell and manage property.
BlueRock is putting all its support behind this innovative start-up, which is being led by self-proclaimed ‘data-nerds’ and BlueRockers Gus McLennan and John Ward. The business is currently moving into a growth phase with plans to enter Asian, North American and European markets. If this isn’t innovation, we most definitely couldn’t tell you what is!
Operational excellence - doing things better
We’re always looking for ways to refine our operations and do things better. One of the cornerstones of the improved efficiency we’ve enjoyed this year is our continued love affair with WorkflowMax, a practice management software that has had an immense impact on the way we operate. The software has enabled us to track our work for clients from quote, right through to delivery, making sure nothing slips through the cracks.
Leveraging technology to improve our processes has helped us bring on over 700 new clients and hold over 4000 meetings. Being able to support this many businesses to achieve their goals makes us feel incredibly proud.
People and culture - focus on inclusion and diversity
The BlueRock Law team found themselves on the winners list (and the red carpet) a number of times throughout the year. Our Legal Eagles took out the accolade for Boutique Diversity Law Firm of the Year at the 2019 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards. The team were also nominated as finalists for a number of other categories, which is an amazing achievement.
The award recognises BlueRock Law for its commitment to diversity through its employment policies, including the provision of flexible working arrangements and the promotion of an inclusive workplace culture.

Community - we are family!
With the festive period coming up, we’ve got a severe case of the warm-and-fuzzies as we’ve got a chance to take a step back and show appreciation for the community that we’re lucky to be part of.
We’ve hosted some great community events throughout the year, including the BlueRock Fair, family day at Mt Baw Baw and wine-tasting in the Yarra Valley. Getting together outside of the office is always a great way to unwind and spend some time with the wider BlueRock community.
Purpose - why we do what we do
Things are always better when do you do them with purpose. That’s one of the reasons we made it our mission to incorporate purpose into our day-to-day in 2019. What was the result of this? Well, BlueRock is now a Registered Service Provider in the Boost Your Business Voucher Program! This means that eligible social enterprises can receive up to 80% of their BlueRock fees subsidised by the government.
In addition to the Boost Your Business Program, the BlueRock Movember team raised just under $2000 for men’s health, we donated a myriad of gifts to the Big Group Hug as part of their reverse advent calendar and maintained our status as a certified B-Corp organisation that uses business as a force for good.
