Why BlueRock is a Great Place to Work!

The results are in...BlueRock has been ranked 14th in the 2021 Australia’s Best Workplaces™ List by Great Place to Work! BlueRock was the only accounting practice included in the ‘Medium Companies’ list and one of only 2 law practices.

This mammoth achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our wonderful team, leaders and community – the very people who have helped to grow such a fantastic BlueRock culture. Over many years we have focused on giving back, doing good, and supporting our people, and it’s this ethos that has enabled us to build and maintain such strong and lasting relationships with our employees, clients, and broader BlueRock community. 

We already know that BlueRock is an amazing place to work (and we’ve been recognised in the Great Place to Work Best Workplaces awards in previous years) but following such a challenging year that has brought so much change and uncertainty, it’s exciting to get this validation from an impartial, globally recognised organisation such as Great Place to Work.

And now we have the opportunity to share some stories about what makes BlueRock one of Australia’s best workplaces!

Do Things You Love with People You Care About and Good Things Happen 

You may have guessed by now that we do things a little differently here at BlueRock. We’re definitely not your average professional services firm, and if our sombrero-wearing-Superman by the reception desk is anything to go by, it’s quite clear that we like to challenge the norms.  

We take a holistic and strategic approach to helping our clients and community through our multidisciplinary service offering. Our entrepreneurial experts collaborate across more than a dozen divisions with just as many industry specialisations to provide entrepreneurs, SME business owners and individuals with a one-stop-shop to support the growth of their business and the achievement of their life goals.  

Our work environment is entrepreneurial in the true meaning of the word, which creates an exciting culture for our employees and clients. We push the boundaries of what’s possible, we aim high, and we apply a ‘test and learn’ attitude – trying new things with ‘above-the-line’ thinking is what it’s all about.  

We’ve seen what happens when you do things you love with people you care about – you get bolstered with a relentless energy and have a lot of fun along the way.

Fostering a People-First Culture

Following the announcement and our certification as a Great Place to Work, we sat down with the Head of People & Culture here at BlueRock, Sabrina Del Borrello, to see what this achievement means to someone who is passionately dedicated to creating a supportive and exciting work environment. 

Sabrina said, “It feels awesome to be recognised for all the hard work that we do to ensure that employees feel supported, happy and engaged in their roles. Being recognised as a Great Place to Work also provides us with a strong indication that people want to be here and can see themselves having a long and happy career at BlueRock.” 

Sabrina was initially attracted to the prospect of working for a company that not only has a strong industry impact but also a leadership team that truly cares about its people. 

BlueRock’s CEO, Bruce McFarlane added, “We’re proud to foster a community within BlueRock where our people can have fun, achieve their goals, and be recognised for the outstanding work they do. We truly believe that when you do things you love with people you care about, good things will happen.”

Leading by Example 

As a certified B Corporation, it’s important to BlueRock’s leadership team – and everyone who works at BlueRock – that we partner with other companies that have similar values and place importance on having an impact. 

One example is a recent initiative we undertook to swap our previous coffee machine for Australia’s most sustainable office coffee provider, Sprout! Sprout’s supply chain is fully traceable and all the coffee grounds we go through here at BlueRock HQ are sent straight to Melbourne Zoo to be used as compost. We strive to have a positive impact on our employees, community, and the environment around us, and wholeheartedly believe that making the move to environmentally sustainable coffee was an important step towards a more environmentally conscious future.

The Be BlueRock Foundation is another way that we empower our BlueRockers to give back to the community. The foundation provides our employees, clients, and wider members of the BlueRock community, with the opportunity to get involved in philanthropy and donate to charities and causes of their choice over time. Clients can set up their own sub-funds or corporate giving strategies, and BlueRockers can get involved in a number of ways: salary sacrificing, volunteering, undertaking pro bono work, donating funds or attending fundraising events. 

Those who see a value in giving back to the community are nurtured to do so, and many of our employees say this attitude is one of the best parts of working at BlueRock!

The Rockstars Who Make BlueRock a Great Place to Work 

Our BlueRockers play hard, but we work even harder. While we pride ourselves on our ability to enjoy our time together (at BlueRock retreats and events, through our social clubs, or over one of our many free lunches), we always work hard to deliver the best possible results for our clients and maintain a high-performing environment. 

This award not only acknowledges the collective efforts of our teams but also the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that BlueRock remains an inclusive, innovative and diverse workplace.

BlueRock’s Chief Operations Officer, Deano Godfrey, said, "We've enjoyed being involved with Great Place to Work since 2016, and it's an honour to be regularly recognised amongst organisations who recognise the value of caring and looking after their people. The award is wonderful on many levels; however, our driving factor for being involved is to keep ourselves accountable to provide a place where BlueRockers enjoy themselves, have fun, do great work and have the best opportunity to further their careers with people they love."
